A victory for a Grand Coalition led by the CDU’s Friedrich Merz, made up of the major parties (CDU/CSU + SPD plus possibly FDP or Greens), which controls two thirds of the seats in Bundestag & Bundesrat, would open the door to dramatic reform in Germany and Europe. It would also restore Germany’s leadership of the EU. The need for this is getting bigger by the day- particularly since the breakdown in Transatlantic relationships.
Heino Ruland and I remain hopeful that this could happen starting with the Election on February 23. If we are right German equities would do well and outperform the rest of Europe relatively. But of course how much that make makes money will depend on what is happening to Trans- Atlantic relations at the time.
